Nice to Meet You From a Russian Zenit to the hills of Eryri
It started with a Zenit TTL. I was a teenager, my mother handed me the camera, and the results were genuinely terrible — the photos, the processing, all of it. But the seed was planted. After years of simple compacts I bought my first DSLR, an Olympus E-300, in 2005, and started experimenting in earnest.
Weddings, and knowing when to stop
My journey took a serious turn in 2012. Inspired by my own wedding, I went deep into professional photography. I gained invaluable experience second-shooting with my friend Ben Pollard before running my own wedding photography business.
Eventually the maths stopped working. A day job plus the demands of weddings left me almost no time for my family, so I made the hard choice and stepped away from weddings to prioritise my home life.
Coming back, through the trees
The camera didn’t stay away for long. In 2022 I rediscovered my passion, this time in the quiet of nature. I fell in love with landscape and woodland photography, with long exposures, drone work and a return to film.
Photography pushes me to explore places I would never otherwise visit: hillsides before dawn, frozen lakes, back roads in Wales and Scotland. And for me the process isn’t complete until I hold a print in my hands. Printing is the true finish line of my art.
Where I am now
I’m based in Coalville, Leicestershire, and I shoot across the UK — mostly Eryri (Snowdonia), Scotland and the coast, plus the woodland closer to home.
