What permissions do you need before a photoshoot?
Tick what your shoot involves, such as people, children, private land or a drone. The tool builds a checklist of permissions, releases and checks to work through before you start.
How the tool works
Each item has a short reason beside it. The list changes as you tick the options on the left, and your ticks are kept while you change the options. You can copy the list as text or reset it.
The items cover written permission, model releases, location agreements, parental consent for anyone under 18, venue photography policy, tripod rules, credit and usage terms, public liability insurance and keeping signed documents. For drones it points you to the current CAA rules and your operator and flyer ID requirements.
This is a checklist only and is not legal advice. Rules vary by place, by landowner and by how the images will be used. If you are unsure, ask the owner or organiser, or take professional advice.
Questions
Is this legal advice?
No. It is a checklist to prompt questions. Rules vary by place, so check with the owner, the venue or a professional.
Do I need a model release?
It depends on the shoot and how the images will be used. A signed release records what the person agrees to, which is why the checklist suggests one when people are involved.
What about drones?
Check the current CAA rules and your operator and flyer ID requirements before you fly. The tool does not state them.
